Apologize 38 years later

The New Sooth West state police apologized officially for the conduct of its officers towards people who took part in the first Mardi Gras festival in Sydney 38 years ago.

The first Mardi Gras festival was held 24.06.1978 to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall riots. The police arrested 53 people, despite they had an official permission from the city administration to organize the festival. The names of the arrested people were told to the public through the mass media, while gay relationships in Australia were considered a crime. Many of those people had lost their jobs and reputations.

And only last week the police apologized for their behavior, saying that they realize the pain and hurt caused to people 38 years ago and regret about it. They admit that relationships between LGBT and the police has changed completely
