The ACLU has taken a lead on LGBT rights issues in recent years, helping to bring discrimination cases in a number of states. But the head of the organisation in Georgia decided to resign because the ACLU’s principles towards transgender people are not matched with her personal opinion about them.
She wrote: “I have shared my personal experience of having taken my elementary school age daughters into a women’s restroom when shortly after three transgender young adults, over six feet with deep voices, entered. My children were visibly frightened, concerned about their safety and left asking lots of questions for which I, like many parents, was ill-prepared to answer.”. By the way, only one daughter of Mrs. Maya Dillard Smith was there during the incident, not all 3 of them. She adds that she is not against trans people in general, she just thinks that their problem should have another solution (though she does not know what this solution should be).
