Ellen DeGeneres is sued for a joke

Ellen DeGeneres loves to make fun of everything and that is what people love her for. But not everybody understands the comedian’s bitter humor. Titi Pierce is suing Ellen for laughing at her name. It was used in a skit called ‘What’s Wrong with These Ads… and These Signs?’. Ellen read Pierce’s company’s sign as ‘titty pierce’. So, Ms Pierce wants the skit to be removed from air and also requires damages.

The formal complaint reads: “Prior to the Defendant’s misdeeds, Ms Pierce has been called only by her name ‘Titi’, which as grammar dictates, is pronounced ‘TEE TEE’.” The complaint also says that it “led to immediate ridicule and raucous laughter from the show’s live and television audiences” and adds that the show didn’t blank out her personal phone number, stating she has received “ridiculing and harassing telephone calls”.

Maybe laughing at somebody’s name is really not right, but we don’t think that this is a conflict to be solved in court. It is just a word game, there was no intention to hurt or humiliate anyone.
