The Ukrainian capital is going to host a gay pride on June 12. The event has been repeatedly marred by violent anti-LGBT clashes in the past. Two people were injured.A video stunt went awry in Kyiv last year when two men attempting to hold hands in public were set upon by a group of violent goons.
Ahead of this weekend’s march, Jamala has written to the Mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko, urging him to ensure the safety of LGBT people. The Amnesty International of Ukraine have officially thanked Jamala and Ukrainian writer Irena Karpa for supporting The Equality March 2016. The organisation admits that more than 500 letters have been already sent to the Kyiv State Administration demanding the mayor to support the march as a sign of freedom and equality. They truly hope that the march will be peaceful this year.
