Ultra-nationalists have threatened to disrupt the gay pride parade, the authorities do not forbid it.
Turkish police fired tear gas to disperse hundreds of demonstrators gathered at the mismatched gay pride parade in the center of Istanbul on Sunday, on June 26.
Several participants of the failed march were detained, among those arrested – two politicians from Germany, members of the European Parliament from the Green Party Volker Beck and Terry Reyntke. The latter said that the police behaved very aggressively.
The city authorities have not given permission to hold a gay pride parade, scheduled for 24 June, referring to the recent attacks in Turkey, in which the authorities blamed Kurdish rebels.
