Northern Cyprus is an unrecognized country, which is technically part of the European Union, but it is under Turkish occupation. This is the only place in Europe, which is still practiced by the state encouraged homophobia.
According to section 171 in the Code of the country, gay sex is completely illegal and is punishable by imprisonment for up to five years, and this is not just a strange old law, which is not canceled in time. In 2012 a wave of arrests of LGBT people underwent i the country, that is waste of time and the police forces and the capture of public funds for people with gay government considered a smart move.
It is noteworthy that in Cyprus there are no laws to ban homosexuality, but because of the occupation of the adults in the north of the country have to fear for their safety.
