This summer in Rio same-sex couple will compete the first time at the Olympic for gold.
Kate and Helen Richardson-Walsh are part of the British Olympic team in the discipline of “grass hockey”. They play in the same team for almost two decades, they are eight years in a relationship and were married three years ago.
“Before everything started happening, we were friends, but we were not best friends,” – says Kate. They met when they were teenagers, and the pair became together only at the Olympic Games in Beijing.
“When we started being together, we had a deep emotional connection. We have similar values and principles, though in many respects we are complete opposites. First, of course, many members of our team were stunned. But now, everyone does not really care, and it’s very nice. In this regard changes are very noticeable, – Kate says. – Our team has always very different women, they have different views of all, characters and sexual preferences”.
At the wedding, which took place in 2013, Kate and Helen invited the whole team. Coaches say in one voice that during the game Kate and Helen have almost telepathic connection.
