Out Paralympians digest: Marieke Vervoort

Rare disease made Marieke unable to move 16 years ago. She was unable to feel anything but pain, even sleeping was a challenge. But despite it all the Belgian wheelchair racer moved on. She became a Paralympian in 2012 and to say that the debut was successful means to say nothing – she got the gold! n 2015 she was elected Vlaamse Reus, an annual prize given out by Flemish sports journalists. She loves sports, she loves to compete and says that only when she races she feels no pain. She considers her life to be terrible, and sport is the shining light for her – doing sports she feels better and much stronger. She dreams about getting one more gold in Rio -despite the pain and despite the weakness. We all have our fingers crossed for her. Good luck, Marieke.
