The Drag Race host won the award for outstanding host of a reality competition in a star-filled awards ceremony in LA yesterday (Sep. 11). The drag star told the beckstage reporters that this is pleasant and very unexpected: “I came here thinking, I got invited to the prom and I’m going to dance my ass off tonight but I didn’t expect that I would have this in my hand while I was dancing. It’s a very special night not just for me but for all the young people around the world who dance to the beat of a different drummer.” Among RuPaul’s rivals were American Idol’s Ryan Seacrest, Dancing with the Stars’ Tom Bergeron, Jane Lynch, Steve Harvey, Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn, the Logo TV. Most of these people have been awarded with Emmy, many of them not even once. And RuPaul has been nominated for the first time and succeeded. No wonder that he was so surprised.
