How does it feel to be a deaf gay man?

We have told you several times about Nyle DiMarco, who is deaf, fluid and fabulous. But he is not the only deaf member of LGBT community. Dickie Hearts, a filmmaker from LA, is gay and deaf. And he loves it!

Of course, it is not easy. In his interview to LGBTQ Nation Dickie said that sometimes his special feature makes him invisible and it frustrates him a lot. Career in filmmaking industry requires having a strong voice. And he has only strong hands to speak out. And he lives a very active life. He just finished shooting a guest spot on a show. He’s also hard at work on a pitch for a new web series. All that is in addition to regularly going on auditions, taking acting classes, and working on short film projects.

When people react on his deafness, he considers it funny instead of being upset: “It’s funny because I look “normal” and my deafness isn’t visible until I start gesturing with my hands. Then people are like, “Ohhhh, you’re deaf.'”

His deafness even helped him to succeed in his career, because his best work ‘Passenger’ is based on his own experience and the main character is deaf. It reminds us that every single part of our personality is good and necessary, even if others don’t think so.
