The actor was appearing on the Andrew Marr Show yesterday ahead of the beloved sci-fi show’s Christmas special, which airs on Christmas Day. During the interview, he was informed that UK Prime Minister Theresa May is a reported fan of the annual special. The PM recently confessed that she celebrates every Christmas with reading Agatha Christie’s novels and watching Doctor Who.
Mr Capaldi said: “That was quite a surprise that she was so keen on it. I hope she takes its message of tolerance and kindness and compassion to heart.” The revival of the show, which returned to screens in 2005, has a strong following among LGBT fans due to its queer and diverse range of characters, from omnisexual Captain Jack Harkness to interspecies married lesbian crime-fighters Madame Vastra and Jenny.
