Richard Hammond says that eating ice-cream is not for straight people

The popular Top Gear and The Grand Tour presenter made the bizarre remarks in the show’s boxing Day episode. His colleague Jeremy Clarkson commented that you couldn’t enjoy a Magnum while inside a Rolls Royce, pointing to a photo of its pristine interior. Hammond then responded by saying: “It’s alright, I don’t eat ice cream”. He added: “It’s something to do with being straight.”

Audience members clapped and cheered the remark. Meanwhile Clarkson, usually known for his forthright sense of humour, looked taken aback at the comment.“Why are you applauding him?” asked Mr Clarkson, “You’re saying all children are homosexual?” Mr Hammond then continued, saying: “Ice cream is a bit… you know. There’s nothing wrong with it, but a grown man eating an ice cream – it’s that way, rather than that way.” These comments caused a great splash in social networks, but the reaction of Mr. Hammond on them is currently unknown. Richard Hammond hasn’t yet responded to the row, having last Tweeted on 23 December.
