Rural Polish village citizens want a gay mayor

Locals elected Łukasz Włodarczyk to run Bobrownikach, a village near to the country’s capital Warsaw. 700 of 800 village inhabitants said that they want a gay man as a Mayor, despite that fact that the Polish society is rather conservative to LGBT people.

Just one local voted for Włodarczyk’s opponent, presumably himself. The remaining villagers did not vote or were not eligible to vote in the election. He will now serve as the ‘Sołty’, or head of the village. Everyone in the village knew that the new head is in same-sex relationships (he has tied the knot with his partner in Scotland. Although, in Poland such marriage is not considered to be legal). Mr Włodarczyk is set to star in half hour show on TVN24, discussing his life and being an out gay man in Polish politics.
