Fired gay professor accused the university of being a Taliban with a liberal face

Ashley Tellis, an LGBT activist and associate professor, said St. Joseph’s College of Arts and Sciences in Bangalore fired him because the students were disrupted with some aspects of his private life. The professor believes it could be nothing but that fact that he is gay. Despite Tellis being owed one month’s notice, the principal added: “The management has got to know of these opinions. I have been asked to relieve you with immediate effect.” The professor called his former employees unbelievably violent homophobes. He added that if you belong to LGBT community or you are only suspected to, your life is never easy, and the university stuff tries their all to complicate it even more. He admits that he tried to influence on students, but only as any other teacher would do, regardless of being gay or straight. He just wanted to do his job – to teach them, to let them become better people. He was not surprised by the news, which he said came after the university discovered he was gay. “For me, this is not a new story. This is not the first time this has happened to me and it will not be the last. But, unlike the students, I have not, am not and will not take it lying down.”
