Ewan McGregor replied to homophobes

The voice of Lumiere in the new Disney Beauty and the Beast movie replied to those who said they already don’t like it because of a gay moment between Gaston and Le Fou announced by the film director. McGregor was a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night. “There was a little bit of controversy of this film, I think Russia’s – ” Colbert starts before the actor interferes, “There’s lots of gay sex in it. There’s a lot of gay sex in this cartoon. And I think if you live anywhere near Alabama you should not go and see this film. What would Jesus think?” Colbert’s sarcastic remark meant that the movie is not even half as ‘gay’ as some homophobes might think. There were rumours that Le Fou had gay yearnings with Gaston or something,” he said, “It turns out he dances with a guy in a dress in one of the scenes, that’s the whole thing.” But McGregor was having none of it. “Well no, I think he’s a gay character,” the answer was. Colbert, surprised, asks: “He is?” before expanding: “I thought it turns out that it doesn’t actually say…” And then McGregor landed the knockout blow to homophobic haters everywhere. “It’s just like…it’s just like, he’s a gay character, and it’s 2017 – fuck’s sake, you know?”
