Ellen ‘alienated’ Caitlyn Jenner about same-sex marriages

The trans reality star says in her memoir that the lesbian legend of television alienated her from the LGBT community because of the stance towards gay marriage. Literally, Ellen said Caitlyn was “a little not on board” with same-sex marriage. “I believed, as anyone would, that that was exactly what she wanted to talk about – my progression in terms of changing attitude over the years. I am for it… I did not initially understand why marriage was so important, influenced no doubt by my own personal experience. Now I do, and it’s a wonderful thing to see,” Jenner wrote. Speaking to Howard Stern at the time, DeGeneres said: “I said, ‘You’re wanting people to understand and accept you – this is, like, really confusing to people. And you still have a judgment about gay people and marriage’. She goes, ‘Well, if the word marriage is that important’. It is! That’s the word. We want the same thing.” But Jenner writes in her memoir that she thinks the Stern interview led to her having her words taken out of context. “This discussion further alienated me from members of the LGBTQ community,” she writes. “Ellen’s appearance on The Howard Stern Show, where in my mind she even more emphatically took what I said out of context, made it go viral.”
