Orange Is the New Black season 5 episodes were hacked and went viral

The first 10 episodes of the upcoming series were allegedly leaked on the file sharing website, Pirate Bay, the Saturday morning. It is believed that the hacker, who went under the screen name “thedarkoverlord”,
blackmailed Netflix saying that he would leak the new episodes if he did not receive a big sum of money from them. “It didn’t have to be this way, Netflix. You’re going to lose a lot more money in all of this than what our modest offer was,” the hacker wrote, “We’re quite ashamed to breathe the same air as you. We figured a pragmatic business such as yourselves would see and understand the benefits of cooperating with a reasonable and merciful entity like ourselves.” Before finishing the message, they sent a further threat to other networks including ABC, Fox, National Geographic and IFC whose TV shows were also hacked according to the media reports. “And to the others: there’s still time to save yourselves. Our offers are still on the table – for now,” they added. It is believed that the content was stolen in an attack on the post-production studio Larson Studios in 2016 – which is why the last three episodes of the series were not published.
