Coming out is always hard. You never know in advance how would your nearest and dearest react if they find out that you are gay (bi, trans etc.). Some parents disown their LGBT kids, others become prominent LGBT activists to protect their children’s rights. And coming out to their parents most people usually don’t know which category they would belong to.
Mat Bomer was 99% sure that his parent would not be accepting because they were religious and leaved in a rather conservative environment in Texas. But he told them everything and says it was the biggest thing he has ever done. His life is divided into ‘before’ and ‘after’. “We got that out of the way, and we got down to the business of figuring out how to love each other,” Bomer said adding that it still took years for his parents to make up their minds with that act that their son is gay, “It was a struggle. It’s a struggle for anybody to take their paradigms and set of beliefs and understandings and completely flip the script. So I’m empathetic toward everyone,” Mat shared. But love won and now everything goes as it should be.
