Sir Ian McKellen would like to see James Bond gay

Openly gay actor who played Magneto in X-men says that it is time for LGBT visibility on screens, and the point is not only in secondary parts. Gay characters can be superheroes, idols, icons, like James Bond. It is especially necessary now when the President Donald Trump tries his best to limit LGBT community in rights. Showing James Bond as a gay man would make the character much closer to reality and the story – much more truthful, sir Ian believes. “If you play James Bond as an outwardly camp, silly gay man that no one took seriously and then he turned out as many gay men are underneath their clothes – buff and strong and as hetero as any hetero – we might have a more truthful story than the one that has been told,” the actor explained. When he was asked whether he would like to play gay Bond himself he responded that the story needs someone younger. He added that he didn’t think actors had “quite understood the joke” about Bond when it came to his true nature: “James Bond is a wimp! He’s a silly Englishman that wants his martinis stirred. He changes his underwear, like Superman, and he can save the world. They all play it the same – he’s heroic all the way through. No, he’s not.”
