Nearly one of two trans kids tried to kill themselves

According to the new data approximately 4/5 of school students identifying as transgender self-harmed and a little bit less than 1/2 attempted suicide. School Report 2017, Stonewall’s study of more than 3,700 LGBT pupils across the UK, also found that around two-thirds of trans kids are bullied. 10% faced death threatens.
There is positive news to be drawn from the report, 2/3 of thew pupils are told at school that anti-LGBT bullying
is not right. Megan, an 18-year-old student at a single-sex secondary school in the south-east, said: “I frequently hear people using the word ‘gay’ as an insult, but I rarely see people being called out on saying it. I don’t think people realise what they’re saying a lot of the time and that it’s really homophobic. I think it’s because saying something is ‘so gay’ is seen as normal for a lot of people.” Teachers talk about the meaning of being LGBT but there is still a lot of work to be done, especially concerning trans issues (addressing
with a preferable name and pronouns and allowing to use the bathroom matched with the gender identity).
