On July 26, 2017 a British channel BBC Two will air a new factual drama “Against the law”. This film tells the story of a real-life journalist Peter Wildeblood, who falls in love with another man at a time when homosexuality was illegal. Wildeblood and his friends, Lord Montagu and Michael Pitt-Rivers, were declared to be guilty of ‘homosexual offences’ and imprisoned.

Daniel Mays plays the main character – Peter Wildeblood and a newcomer Richard Gadd plays his beloved – Eddie McNally. As far as the storyline of “Against the law” involves a gay sex scene, Mr. Mays admits they’ve tested him as an actor and were quite challenging. He said: We were gonna shoot [the sex scenes] first of all but Fergus took the brilliant decision to wait until the very end, which is a great decision because I felt so invested in it and it had gone so well, and, in fact, it was such an integral part of it. The act of love making between two men was deemed a criminal act. It was such an important scene to get right. But like I said, I had such ownership of the character. I’m so pleased we waited until the end. And also it gave me a chance to get to know Richard – it would have been quite strange for the pair of us to jump in bed from the off!”
