LGBT activists in Kosovo have held their first Pride parade last week. There had been unofficial marches in the country previously to tackle homophobia in the country before it reached independence. Even the country’s president, Hashim Thaçi took part in the event writing on Twitter that the Constitution of Kosovo stands for love. The march, called In The Name of Love, was organised by non-governmental organisations and is intended to become an annual event herein. As well as hundreds of activists and the country’s president, the Kosovo-born popstar Dua Lipa alsop sent her love and support to her native land and the LGBT community. A 2015 report the National Democratic Institution, a US organisation that promotes democratic institutions, found that gay and transgender people face significant levels of homophobia in the region.
