A mother in Atlanta pulled her daughter out of school because she figured out the meaning of such words as ‘gay’ and ‘lesbian’. Lithonia Middle School in Georgia came under fire after teaching children these terms and the mother of one 12-year-old girl decided to find another school for her child. “We’re talking about a sixth grader who still watches Nickelodeon. I’m not ready to explain what these words are nor what they mean. I will be removing her from that class and I’m also going to take it to the board of education to see what they have to say about it as well,” the mother said. We are emphasizing again, the girl is 12. Not 4, not 9, 12! This is the age when children begin to realize who they are attracted to – boys or girls. And they may not only know who gays and lesbians are, they may comme out as ones. Whether their parents agree with it or not. Parks had signed a consent form for her daughter to take part in sex and relationship education lessons, but claims she made clear to the teacher that her daughter was not to learn about “this sort of thing”. She added: “Why are they teaching that in school? What does that have to do with life?” Well, not to be hateful, for example. To understand that there are different people and whoever you love, it does not mean that you don’t deserve being a part of society, being respected and loved the way you are. Many people need it.
