Students tackled a homophobic preacher with a cover of Elvis

Students at the University of Maine had the perfect response when an anti-gay preacher made speech in their campus. He brandished a sign condemning ‘sexual immorality’ and condemning homosexuality. But the students challenged him perfectly with music breaking into an a capella cover of Elvis song ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’. A clip of the incident uploaded to Facebook has more than 11,000 views and collected a lot of supportive comments. One commenter wrote: “I really like this approach. Kudos to whoever came up with the idea.” Another added: “Some people talk about snowflakes. Some people mock Gen Z. But I’m just gonna stand up applaud the folks who raise their voices and do so in beautiful harmony. This. This is how you stand up- with dignity and pride and this is how you dissent- with respect and peacefully #Maine”.

“Wise men say
Only fools rush in
But I can’t help falling in love with you
Shall I stay?
Would it be a sin
If I can’t help falling in love with you?”

Immortal words of Elvis are suiting perfectly for our time.
