Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson says that AIDS is a way for God to solve the problem of sexual abuse and provides Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey as examples. And though these two men were accused of sexual abuse, as far as we may know, neither of them has AIDS. Addressing the Weinstein scandal in an interview with Catholic news network EWTN, Robertson referred to AIDS crisis victims. “Can you believe it? there’s rank sexual immorality and perversion coming out of, of all places, Hollywood, California. Is this a stunner or what?” he fumed,“Look up the Centre for Disease Control. 1110 million Americans have a sexually transmitted disease. Worldwide, almost 40 million, 35 to 40 million individuals are now deceased because of AIDS”. And why does it happen? To Mr. Robertson’s mind it happens because people are punished by God for preservation. However. this point of view is rather hard to share because not every person that committed a sexually related crime and not every person who is gay (which Robertson also believes to be a crime) has AIDS and vice versa.
