Fashion designer and creative director Christopher Bailey is one of the most influential gay men in a business sphere and now he announces that he is going to quit working for a luxury brand. Fashion designer Bailey, 46, topped OutStanding’s 2014 List of the top LGBTI executives in the world (and was placed 19th on the recent 2017 listing). The news came in a director/PDMR (person discharging managerial responsibilities) document that the company filed with the London Stock Exchange. It revealed that he will be cashing in his shares in Burberry for £16million (£21m/€18m). Bailey told BBC it was not an easy decision, however he is excited about a new creative project he is going to make. ‘I do truly believe, however, that Burberry’s best days are still ahead of her and that the company will go from strength to strength with the strategy we have developed.’ Bailey has been with Burberry for 17 years and he played a big role in turning Burberry into a global luxury brand we all know.Bailey stepped aside as Chief Executive to make way for Marco Gobbetti in July 2016. He stayed on as creative director and President, but is now due to step down as creative lead next March. He will exit the company completely by the end of 2018.
