Lil Peep, or Gustav Åhr in real life, was an American rapper, who performed in an emo-rap subgenre of hip hop music. Emo-rap is relatively new subgenre in music that characterizes as a mix of hip hop fusing beats and deep, emotional lyrics. There have been only few notable artists, who perform in this genre, like XXXTentacion, Twenty One Pilots and Hollywood Undead. Lil Peep was the most prominent and creative one of them.
Rising star’s debut album has been released in August 2017, which at one point attracted millions of fans to look closer to the rapper’s performance. In parallel to his fast-paced career, Lil Peep came out as bisexual. Hopefully for the young star, fans met the news with support. However on the days, terrible news has shocked the public. Young rapper, who was only 21, has died. Sarah Stennett, CEO of First Access Entertainment, who partnered with Peep in early 2016, commented: “‘I am shocked and heartbroken. I do not believe Peep wanted to die, this is so tragic. He had big goals and dreams for the future which he had shared with me, his team, his family and his friends.”
Describing Peep as “hugely creative, highly intelligent, massively charismatic, charming and gentle” Stennet goes on to say the rapper had a huge ambition and his career was flourishing. But there was some talking that rapper suffered from depression and anxiety and furthermore had suicidal thoughts. According to the star’s management, Lil Peep allegedly died from a drug overdose.
