Two women from New South wales, Australia, shared the story of finding love on the playground and won a lot of love and support. Bridget Harris and Dee Why met because their children studied together. The women were both divorced and they became close friends. And later their friendship grew into something more. “I thought, ‘What’s wrong with me?’ But in the end I could not fight it,” Harris said. She went on saying that she never imagined herself a single mum, and as for being a single mum in same-sex relationships, it was totally out of her mind. but heart and mind often go against each other – now the women are living together bringing up their six children! And now that the legalisation of gay marriage is nigh in Australia, the pair hope to get hitched. It motivated them to open up about their relationships to stop lying to themselves and others. Stating that the Yes result had meant she could be more open about her relationship, Harris said that “a weight has been lifted from my shoulders”. “In all my other relationships I’ve been in I could be open about them but with this one it was really difficult. It felt like I wasn’t being true to myself. Now it’s out there it’s like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders,” she said.
