An Italian doctor will not be legally punished for saying that being gay was a disease, it has been revealed. Dr Silvana De Mari was sued by the LGBT group Torino Pride that claimed that the doctor had libeled them when she had called their sexuality a disease. But the court did not see legal grounds for the lawsuit. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has cleared the woman of all the charges. The charges were dismissed after the Prosecutor’s Office stated that it was impossible to determine the exact victims, she was not trying to defame certain people. And the lawyer acting for Torino Pride, Nicolo Ferraris, has said that the words said by De Mari don’t constitute opinion, to his mind it was nothing but a hateful homophobic speech: “The offences pronounced publicly by De Mari are aimed at LGBT movements and not only at LGBT people, and they are not opinions but offences.”
