Star Wars actor Oscar Issac has spoken out about LGBT representation in the francise. Oscar Issac stars in the upcoming Star Wars film, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, his second appearance in the franshise. Giving an interview to Collider, Issac addressed the speculation that surrounds his character of Poe Dameron, a charasmatic fighter pilot. Much of the attention has focused on Oscar Issac’s character and his relationship with John Boyega’s character Flynn. The two characters made their debut in Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015, prompting rumours and speculation of a relationship between the two characters. In the Collider interview, Issac addressed the impact of representation and said that he’s actually not against playing a gay character, but thinks it’s not time to introduce it in Star Wars. “Well what it means to me is that people can see themselves in a hero like this, in a movie like this, which I love,” Issac said, “As to actually seeing how that manifests in Poe – that isn’t necessarily going to be a clear story point in [The Last Jedi]. But as an actor I’m very open to those possible storylines and I don’t think it needs to be nailed down in any kind of traditional way.”.
