Roy Moore has lost

One of the most homophobic Senate hopefuls in the American history failed to get the seat, it has been confirmed. The Republican candidate for Alabama’s US Senate seat lost to Democrat Doug Jones by 49.9% to 48.4%, or 20,000 votes. Moore is known for opposing same-sex marriages and refusing to issue marriage licences for same-sex couples when it was his direct duty. He also said that homosexuality was the same as sex with animals and said that all gay people were potential child abusers (though he was accused of sexually assaulting a minor himself). He also pointed that if it depended on him he would criminalize gay sex and that pro-LGBT laws were similar to the Nazi regime. Moore resisted calls from more than a dozen Republican senators – including Majority Leader of the Senate Mitch McConnell – to step aside. Commenting his fail, Moore claimed: “You know, part of the thing — part of the problem with this campaign is we’ve been painted in an unfavourable and unfaithful light. We’ve been put in a hole, if you will.”
