Dave Chappelle spoke in defence of Kevin Spacey

Dave Chappelle mocked trans people and supported Kevin Spacey in a New Year special for Netflix. The first half, Equanimity, also premiered at the same time. In the damaging hour-long episodes, Chappelle commented accusations of transphobia that he faced after publicly targeting Caitlyn Jenner with transphobic slurs and misgendering her. “You know who hates me the most? The transgender community. I didn’t realise how bad it was. These motherf*ckers are really mad about that last Netflix special,” the comedian began, “It’s tough man, I don’t know what to do about it ’cause I like them. I always have. Never had a problem with them. Ya know, just f*cking around. And a matter of fact I think I make fun of everybody, and I mean as a group of people they have to admit… it’s kind of f*cking hilarious man.” He added that he often fails to understand others but wants other people to understand him. Chappelle also defended Kevin Spacey and took aim at one of Louis CK’s victims. Both Spacey and Louis CK have been embroiled in the sexual harassment scandal coming out of Hollywood in the last few months. Chappelle tried to joke that Spacey, who has been accused of a raft of sexual misconduct allegations, was “grabbing men by the p***y”. He went on to refer to Star Trek actor Anthony Rapp, who accused Spacey of making sexual advances on him when he was 14. Chappelle said: “Not to victim-blame, but it seems like the kind of situation that a gay 14-year-old kid would get himself into.”
