Call Me By Your name has led the LGBTI nominations at the Oscars this year, including for the sought-after ‘Best Picture’ category. The gay love story is nominated in 4 categories in general, so there is a good chance for revenge after the Golden Globe fail. One snub the film did get was for Michael Stuhlbarg who some critics have already said should have been nominated for ‘Supporting Actor.’ However, Richard Jenkins who plays a gay character in the Shape of Water did get a nomination in this category.Elsewhere, Rachel Morrison has become the first woman to get nominated for the ‘Cinematography’ award. Greta Gerwig becomes the fifth woman ever nominated for ‘Best Director.’ But, she is the first woman in history to be nominated for her debut. Historically, 21 men have been nominated for their directing debut before. The trans actress Daniela Vega also missed out on a nomination for A Fantastic Woman.
