More than 75,000 teens aged 13 to 17 in the United States will face conversion therapy before they grow up, according to the study held by the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law. They provided a research that showed that According to the research, around 20,000 LGBTI youth will receive the controversial treatment from health care professionals. Another 57,000 will receive the treatment from religious or spiritual leaders. The study also noted that approximately a half of those who had already undergone such practices experienced it when they were teens or adolescents. Conversion therapy posits that pseudoscience and/or religion can ‘cure’ people of homosexuality. Most professional health associations condemn the practice and have consequently called on Congress and politicians to pass laws against it. Indeed, the study reveals 6,000 people would have received conversion therapy before 18 if it hadn’t been for state laws banning it.
