Transgender former Army private, whistleblower and currently a Senate candidate reveals that living in a country ruled by Trump seems quite similar to the time she spent in a jail. “This is not the home I expected to come home to. This is another prison. . . . I need to figure out how we’re going to survive it,” Manning said in the interview to Washington Post. She said she would try to change the situation herself challenging incumbent senator Ben Cardin, who has served two terms in the Senate and is a major voice in foreign policy. “The establishment needs to be challenged, and it needs to be challenged in their footholds and in the places where they feel safe,” Manning said, explaining her reasons for running in the race. “This isn’t about criminal justice reform,” she said, “it’s about criminal justice restructuring. We need to start closing prisons. We need to start releasing prisoners.”
