Mary Berry’s new co-star Dan Doherty has apologised after homophobic tweets from his past went viral. He apparently deleted the offensive posts after they resurfaced, however, one seemingly anti-trans slur remained, apparently the man did not notice that it could also be offensive. Doherty wrote to one user: “I’d retweet that if you weren’t all gay and private.” In an exchange with someone who messaged him with kisses, he said simply: “Don’t be gay.” And he called fellow chef Tom Cenci a “c***” for posting photos of him in which he was “looking like a rejected member of the village people”. Now he says sorry for the tweets and says that they don’t reflect his current beliefs and he understands that they are offensive. Doherty will judge creations on the new show with Berry and author Chris Bavin, with Claudia Winkleman acting as host.
