Christian leader admits that churches’ prejudice are to blame for LGBT mental health problems

Rev Canon Steve Chalke, from Christian charity Oasis, says church leaders are responsible for LGBT people harming themselves, attempting suicides and struggling mental health diseases.‘Research shows that the church and Christians are the biggest single source of anti-LGBT messages in society, media and public debate,’ Rev. Chalke told Gay Star News, referring to researches held by LGBT charity Stonewall,‘My call is to all responsible church leaders to reevaluate their understanding of the bible and LGBTI people. Welcome and embrace them for who they are recognizing and sanctifying their monogamous relationships.’ Rev Canon Steve Chalke says the Bible’s underlying message is one of ‘justice, compassion, and liberation.’ But says instead ‘Christian leaders are failing to grapple with the challenges, contradictions, and inconsistencies it presents.’
