Orthodox church claims to be able to ‘cure’ homosexuality

The diocesan bishop of the Moscow diocese Metropolitan Hilarion said that the church can make LGBT+ people straight and help them to create Christian families. He published a statement on his Telegram channel saying that these were not just words and he had a lot of experience of working with such people and ‘curing’ them as they apparently understood that homosexual ‘lifestyle’ could not be compared to ‘natural’ heterosexual relationships because of its ‘sinfulness’. Although the bishop’s jurisdiction is limited to Moscow, he has other canonical powers that can influence the rest of the country. Since the introduction of Russia’s gay propaganda law in 2013, the rights and safety of LGBT+ citizens have been in disarray.
