3 UK men arrested for allegedly mocking a gay couple in Spain flying to Gran Canaria
The incident is said to have taken place on a flight from Nottingham to the holiday island when a male gay couple was allegedly abused by a group of men on the way to Spain. They say the abuse started while in the air and went on when they boarded and started collecting baggage. The couple were able to give a clear description of the three Brits to Spanish authorities and they were identified, caught and brought to the judge. They were charged with committing “a crime against the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution” for discrimination based on sexual orientation. The three were arrested on February 9. Gran Canaria prides itself on being a tolerant and diverse destination for LGBT people, having attracted gay holiday-goers since the 1960s.
