Roxane Gay has offered to write DC Comics’ Batgirl film after Joss Whedon pulled out of the role because of being unable to come up with a story for the film. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, The Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator said that the project was great but not for him. “I’m grateful to Geoff [Johns] and [Warners Picture Group president] Toby [Emmerich] and everyone who was so welcoming when I arrived, and so understanding when I… uh, is there a sexier word for ‘failed’?” he said. Roxanne Gay announced that she would be happy to replace him. Michele Wells, Vice President of Warner Brothers and DC Comics, responded to Gay saying that if she was talking seriously she should contact them. She promised to do this, underlining that she definitely was not joking. The thread has since gone quiet but fans are overjoyed at the prospect that Gay might get onboard with the film.
