More than a half of trans teachers are harassed at work
Over half, 56 percent, of transgender teachers revealed that they have experienced harassment at work, the National Public Radio reports. The American publication surveyed 79 teachers who identify as transgender or non-binary. They found that harassment or discrimination experienced by trans and non-binary teachers hardly ever comes from pupils. They are mostly accepting and supportive but it is unlikely to say so about the administration and other teachers, they are the main sources of harassment. Two of the people who were surveyed
said they have been made redundant from schools because of their gender identity. 17 percent who were out in the workplace reported being asked to change their presentation in order to correspond with the gender they were assigned at birth. A fifth said that they had experienced verbal harassment. Of those surveyed, not everyone was out in the workplace, with 29 percent concealing their gender identity from their employers.
