Troye Sivan’s new song Bloom, released last week, is about a passive role in same-sex relationships, he confirmed. Shortly after the video trended at number one on Twitter, Sivan came up with the hashtag #BopsBoutBottoming, and though the tweet was later deleted, the fans lifted the hashtag up to worldwide trends. The lyrics to “Bloom” include the line: “Take a trip into my garden, I’ve got so much to show ya.”The song’s pre-chorus continues: ”I need you to tell me right before it goes down / Hold my hand if I get scared now / Take a second, baby, slow it down.” Troye came out as gay in 2013 via youtube and has become a role model for many young LGBT people. Sivan has been a very public advocate for LGBT rights, winning a GLAAD award for outstanding music artist in 2016. In 2017, he received another GLAAD distinction, the Stephen F. Kolzak Award in 2017, which honors members of the media or entertainment industry’s efforts to fight homophobia.
