Woman fights for life after a homophobic attack with a drill

A woman was left fighting for her life in Northern Ireland after she was attacked with a cordless drill, it is very likely that it was a hate crime attack, though this version is yet to be confirmed. The 38-year-old victim was assaulted with a cordless drill in Strabane, Northern Ireland, at around 2 AM on May 5. Her head injury led to her being hospitalized in a critical condition. The 17-year-old male suspect was detained by police a short distance away from the scene, according to the Police Service of Northern Ireland, which is now looking for witnesses and factual evidence. SDLP assembly member for West Tyrone, Daniel McCrossan, said: “I am absolutely horrified by this assault. This kind of sickening behavior has no place in society. I would ask the community to give the PSNI the space they need to carry out their investigation swiftly and throughly. I would also appeal to anyone who may have information about this assault to contact crime stoppers immediately. My thoughts are with the victim and her family.”
