Strictly Come Dancing’s new head judge Shirley Ballas has backed same-sex dance couples on the popular dancing show even though producers continue to resist stepping away from what they call a traditional format. Ballas, who replaced long-serving head judge Len Goodman last year, was asked about the issue on Good Morning Britain when the host Susanne Reid asked her opinion about it. She responded that, for example, in the Italian version of the show a same-sex couple reached the final and she thinks it is worth watching. Italian celebrity Giovanni Ciacci has made it to final of Ballando con le stelle alongside male dancer Raimondo Todaro. For Ballas it is a sign that times are changing and when these changes come to the UK she promises to welcome them. Ballas is the third judge to back the change. Judge Craig Revel Horwood has long been a supporter of permitting same-sex dance couples on the show. Fellow judge Bruno Toniloi added that it would be fantastic.
