A friend of Chelsea Manning has declared that she is safe after she wrote a number of tweets that allowed to suggest that she was thinking about suicide. “I’m sorry I let you all down – I’m not really cut out for this world – I tried adapting to this world out here but I failed you – I couldn’t do this anymore – I can take people I know hating me but not my own friends – I tried and I’m sorry about my failure,” she wrote in a tweet. Shortly following the announcement, she posted a picture of herself staring down from the edge of a tall building writing in the caption that she was sorry. After raising concerns about her welfare, a friend posted several hours later that she was okay, just needed some space. “Chelsea is safe. she is on the phone with friends, thanks everyone for your concern and please give her some space [sic],” the tweet from her account said. Manning attempted suicide several times while in prison.
