Within the framework of this year’s ShanghaiPRIDE festival, LGBTI choir has performed in China for the first time ever


In 2018 Shanghai PRIDE festival celebrated its 10th anniversary. An annual pride event was first held in the most populous city of the world – Shanghai in 2009 and was attended by 3 thousands of people from across the China. Now, it is a 10-days festival that features art exhibitions, LGBT-themed seminars, workshops, music performances, film screenings, theater shows and much more. Within the framework of this year’s anniversary Shanghai PRIDE festival, organizers have prepared a great surprise for the attendants of the event – the first LGBT choir concert in China. The concert was named The Queer Choir Festival and included performances from seven queer and LGBTQ-friendly choirs from across the China. Beijing Queer Chorus, Blue Voice Chorus, Shanxilandian Tongsheng Chorus, Shanghai Hyperbolic Singers, Woozeal Chamber Singers and Nanjing New Jump Chorus were among those honored to take part in the inaugural event. Popular gay dating app Blued live streamed the concert so people all over the world could watch. The online translation has brought more than 80,000 viewers to their screens. In addition to that, tickets for the show were completely sold out that indicates on the popular demand for the event. Thrilled viewers expressed their hopes for The Queer Choir Festival to become a permanent addition to the annual Pride celebration in Shanghai.
