Effective August 1, Beth Ford will take the reins of food and agricultural cooperative Land O’Lakes, Inc., ranked 216 in the annual ranking of the largest companies in the US compiled by the American publication Fortune, and she is the first out lesbian on such a responsible post. The company statement announcing her appointment stated that the new CEO is married to a woman named Jill, with whom she rises three kids in Minneapolis, though they did not mark her appointment as history-making and did not underline her LGBT status. Ford joins a small club of openly gay business leaders running a Fortune 500 company. “By Fortune’s count, Ford will be the third openly gay CEO of a Fortune 500 company and the first woman,” the publication wrote—Apple’s Tim Cook and the Dow Chemical Company’s Jim Fitterling being the other two. “I am extraordinarily grateful to work at a company that values family, including my own,” the newly-chosen CEO said, reacting on her appointment.
