Hardy Billington, 65, is likely to be elected to represent Poplar Bluff in the state House, as the city sits in Butler County, where around 80 percent of residents voted for Donald Trump in 2016. And now he is under fire for saying that homosexuality has killed more people than smoking in his adverts for local newspapers. To tell exactly, it did not happen now, but it is revealed in the wake of election. In 2012, he bought a space in the Daily American Republic to publicize his support for a law to ban teachers from telling their pupils about homosexuality. “Study after study reveals that homosexuality, whether male or female, can take anywhere from 10, 20 to 30 years off of someone’s lifespan,” he wrote, without referring to any particular researches. In fact, gay people indeed have a risk to die earlier because of living in condition of emotional distress, being bullied, discriminated against or disowned, they are up to three times more likely to commit suicide than straight peers. But it is rather an argument for LGBT-inclusive education than against it.
