The Orange is the New Black star was taking part in a roundtable of transgender actors for Variety when she was asked why trans people are not represented in comic books and superhero movies based on them. Cox says that she personally would not mind to contribute into it, and indeed, there is a necessity in trans-themed superhero movies, so the situation will change. Despite featuring hundreds of characters across its 20 blockbuster films to date, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has never featured a visible gay or bi character even when there were ones in comic books. For DC and X-men the situation is hardly better. It has been alleged that bosses are concerned that LGBT content may harm global box office takings, as the blockbuster films rely on a wide release in markets where censors ban mention of LGBT people.
