Donald Duke had allegedly said that he “would not criminalize” gay people if he were to be elected president. Homosexuality is illegal in Nigeria, it is punished up to 14 years in prison and in Sharia-controlled states gay people are stoned to death. Mr. Duke promised to change it, but there are doubts whether to believe his words or not if to consider that fact that he expressed personal disapproval of homosexuality.“I would not go seeking homosexuals for prosecution as this is liable to abuses and as such would rather not delve into the sexuality of an individual,” he wrote on Instagram, adding that the ban on homosexuality will remain because he believes it to be right. He said he would not attack gay people, of course, but he advises them not to expose their sexuality in public.
